Introduction
“Golf is such an escape to the beauty of nature around us, the green grass, rolling terrain, lakes and ponds, flowers and trees. It is so invigorating to walk the course and take in all that the earth has to offer us”.
That was an interesting way to explain the game that you love, wasn’t it? I wonder if you ever really have taken in the beauty of the golf course when you have played it, or do you see yourself instead studying every hole and worrying about the outcome of the shot in front of you? Are you caught up in the moment of the swing, where your arm is at address, where your weight is in your backswing and are you keeping your head down when you hit your shot? Sound familiar?
There are over 6 million avid golfers in America and sadly today the game is not really growing. Golf is picking up new golfers all the time, but it is also loosing the same amount it brings in each year. How can such a great game be losing players?
Well, for some the obvious reasons are in place such as health or time restraints, but why is golf losing others? I’m sorry to say some give up because they don’t see improvement in their game. They may give other reasons for it, but I suspect quite a few leave for that reason. They have been disillusioned to believe their games cannot improve, unless they continually practice the same things over and over.
The rest of the millions who stick with the game hang in there for different reasons which include the simple fun of it, sense of accomplishment in playing well or producing certain shots, entertainment, relaxation and competition. We all have different reasons why we love the game so much. However most golfers are settling for a game that is not near the level of what they could be producing when they play.
Golfers jump into the game at all different levels and ages and develop the basic understanding of the game and at the same time develop a basic understanding or belief of where their game could go. For some, especially junior golfers, they are encouraged to keep trying and practice harder and harder and their game will improve. “The more you practice, the better you will get”, my dad always told me when I was a kid.
When I grew up we had a large field next to our house that was mown about once a month. As I took up the game my dad gave me one club at a time to learn the game, so I would take my few clubs to that field and hit 6-12 balls (depending on how many I lost the previous time I practiced) and hit them to one end of the field, walk to those at that end and hit them back for hours at a time. That was what I thought practicing hard was when I was a kid. It was hard just trying to find the balls in that field each time!
Next to this field of mine was an elementary school that had a huge field next to it, so I would from time to time go there to practice also. It had newly planted pine trees that surrounded the perimeter that were great targets to hit to and a baseball diamond that had sand all around the home plate area like a bunker to hit out of.
I would hit balls out on that field for hours at a time, creating my own course with various targets all the time also.
The field had a large fence around it also with woods to one side of it, so it was not uncommon for me to slice many errant shots over the fence and that ball be gone forever. Often I would find myself down to 2 or 3 balls after starting the afternoon with 10 or so. I would get so bummed out when I would end up with just those two or three, but in hind site that was probably one of the greatest gifts I was ever given in my life.
You see when I was restricted to those last few balls, I would then play myself against Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus or Tom Watson. I’m sure a lot of golfers have done something like this in their past, testing themselves to see how they will react under pressure.
My big matches against these golf icons were always around dates of The Masters, US Open, British Open and PGA Championship in that field. A lot of time I would bow out and play as one of those players against the others. I felt invincible when I would take on the roll of Jack Nicklaus; the other players did not have a chance. I remembered I played so well when I was Jack, after all he was the greatest player of all time back then, how could I feel any different.
Years later as a PGA Professional I reflected on my childhood past trying to see if there was anything that allowed me to play effortlessly and without fear when I was a kid in those fields next to our home.
As a teaching professional I noticed many golfers struggle with their games because of doubt in them and fear of where their golf ball may go when they hit it. This fear and doubt stems from each players lack of belief in their ability they have inside themselves to create that which they desire on the course.
It then dawned on me that I was playing some of my best golf as a kid when I would fill the shoes of Jack Nicklaus. I expected to hit the shot where I wanted it, because he would. I knew where I wanted the ball to go because it was being broadcast on TV and as I took on the roll of the late ABC broadcaster Dave Marr, I was explaining exactly where the ball should go with each shot. I had a great vision of where the ball was going to go. I had no fear of missing the shot or losing the match to the other players I was playing out there because Jack usually never lost when in contention with the big players.
So, simple combinations, I discovered were part of an awesome equation to producing good golf shots and having a good golf game. With that revelation I moved on to investigate other areas of creation in life, why things occur the way they do and what part I was playing in manifesting things in my life. It has been a very fun journey of discovery as I have read over 600 books on many different theories of life and what surrounds us. It has led to my views and beliefs of golf that I have today, and the writing of this book.
The creation and manifestation of a successful golf shot is an evolution that involves different thoughts and energies in order to obtain the desired outcomes while on the course or practice range. A simple amount of determination, confidence and belief are needed by every player in order to create that which each player desires.
The successful production of individual shots on the course is directly related to the dream or vision of each shot an individual has for his or her self. This simple statement shows that you are the creator of your game, never the victim and should take pleasure in the possibility of each and every shot you make. Our emotions inspire us and tell us we are empowered to create what we want while on the course.
This book considers how you can inspire yourself to manifest and create your golf game through enlightenment about yourself. How to go about creating your desires? What tools you should use? What direction should be taken? Do you have a clear picture of what you want? How do you let go and let it come to you?
It illustrates to you that you deliberately create your golf game based on the intentions you put behind each swing and shot. When you resonate with those desired shots, and feel good about the possibility of your intended shots, then the results are the increased outcome of success which allows you to enjoy this great game more and more each day.
When we begin to understand that when we openly allow for all things to be created in their own time and place and accept the given situations we face when on the course each day our games will move to higher and higher levels.
This book introduces you to the Alcero Method of Golf. The Alcero Method is a four part equation that explains how each and every shot you make on the course or on the range is produced. Those four parts are Inspiration, Creation, Manifestation and Enlightenment. One cannot happen without the other, they are connected and evolve into each other and you will see that when you reach the final part, the process begins all over again for you to step forward again and make your next shot.
The book is divided into four sections explaining to you how each of the four areas of the Alcero Method work specifically toward your game. This beautiful creative process you will notice spills over into your every day life and it is my hope that as you discover for yourself the simplicities of golf and its creation, you will also enjoy new ways to create your life outside of golf.
The key to you not becoming one of the two hundred thousand golfers that leave the game each year is for you to take notice in the course you play and the beauty that surrounds it. The Alcero Method encourages you to sense and smell the course as you play it. Feel it underneath your feet when you walk it. Notice the terrain while at the same time plan your next shot. Observe your thought patterns as you play and determine if there are better ones for you that you could use.
The Alcero Method strips you to the bare essence of belief you have in your current game and encourages you to look at the many great possibilities the game has for you. We are not going to hit every shot perfectly and the game will give you struggle from time to time. But life is all about opposites and the bad shots inspire you to create better ones.
The Alcero Method reveals exciting and simple ways to look at your game and create new shots and outcomes for yourself. Golf can not stand to lose you, and the Alcero Method shows you how to find a plan of action to create that which you desire and go for it, allowing you to break through to new levels in your game all the time!
