Golf's Field of Possibilities
The quest for mastering the game of golf has been attempted for over 100 years and while some have come to win at the level they desire to, most other golfers fall terribly short of the possible vision they once had when they took up the game.
You may know of individuals who play to a higher level than yourself, certainly you know of tour players who have taken their games to higher levels and become very successful. However, have you reached the pinnacle of your game yet?
Do you even know where that pinnacle would be?
The way to improve your game is to really look at it from the end result you wish to accomplish. You must see the milestone at the end, and then create the path to lead you there. That path has many ways of achievement, so it is important to understand that it can occur in multiple possible ways and being attached to a particular or certain path only will delay your eventual outcome. Remember the universe we live in offers infinite ways to create any desire you have. However, without the vision of where you wish to go, the path is non-existent. There is nothing available to connect you from the path to your destination.
This is where so many in golf fall short.
Most golfers do not have a specific vision of where they really wish to go. Without a vision, how would the universe or life’s source ever be able to support you in your desire? Surely you have had visions of other areas in your life and you have met them. If you reflect on those visions, you will see that you had a certain amount of belief that you would attain them. That belief varied from time to time based on circumstances around you. However, eventually you reached your dreams in one fashion or another.
For you to have success in your golf game you must first obtain, create and implement a vision of where you wish to go. What are your desires? What type of swing are you trying to create? What scores do you wish to post. What tournaments do you wish to win? These questions put you on the path to your vision. The possibilities of that path are numerous, or infinite really. The key for your attaining those visions is to understand the field in which they are created.
In 1997 the founder of Alcero Golf, Al Owens, attended a week long PGA of America workshop at the World Woods Golf Club in central Florida. This special week long workshop was designed to specifically improve PGA professionals playing and teaching approach to their golf game and their students. This special seminar was one that changed the approach of how Al would look at golf for the rest of his life.
One of the guest speakers was
Dr. Rick Jensen, Ph.D.,
Founder of the Performance Center at the PGA National Resort and Spa. Dr. Jensen is a nationally recognized performance consultant and sport psychologist. In golf, his clients include more than 50 touring pros on the PGA, LPGA, and Champions Tours. Dr. Jensen’s clients have won a total of more than $65 million in career earnings and 197 tour victories. Thirteen of his clients have won at least one major championship and have combined to win a total of 32 majors.
Al was so impressed with Dr. Jensen that he subsequently asked him to speak to his home section of the PGA in Indiana. Rick graciously accepted and spoke to the nearly 350 members of the Indiana PGA in March of 1998.
One of the items Dr. Jensen elaborated on in his initial seminar in Florida with Al was that each shot attempted by any golfer has multiple outcomes possible. He used a jar of marbles as his example.
In it were many white ones and some black ones. As he explained the possibility each player has of reaching in and grabbing a white marble is greater than that of pulling out a black one because there are many more of them. He added that the total number of marbles (black or white) reflected all the possible outcomes with an individual’s golf game. The white ones then reflected the non-desired shots a player could create. However it is the black ones in the jar which are the desired ones in someone’s golf game, the type of shot each golfer would prefer more to create than a white marble.
He then mentioned that if the golfer practices more and becomes more efficient in there golf game the number of white ones decrease due to their expertise and narrowing the possibilities based on technique and belief in certain outcomes. Thus the jar would have more of an equal number of marbles.
This visual display by Dr Jensen is a very powerful one and if understood further and grasped to an even higher level can take your golf game much faster to the level in which you wish to reach every time you play.
Obviously you have heard the more you practice the better you get. However take a look at the analogy of the marbles a little closer.
The result of you practicing and becoming better gives you the energy or belief that you can achieve certain goals, create certain shots or attain certain scores while you play. As others have mentioned, practice makes perfect, and generally as you practice and find improvement, your belief rises. When this occurs, less white marbles are then in the jar, and your ratio to better shots or picking the black marble out of the jar increases!
So where does this lead you in your golf game?
With this simple concept planted in your mind now lets take your golf game one step further. That one step further is the “Field of Possibilities” your golf game has every time you play. This field is based on your belief and desire to create a certain shot every time you play.
Your Possible Outcomes in the Field (see graphic above)
Your possible outcomes in the field are an infinite number of outcomes that are available every time you play golf or make a shot. Literally, this is an infinite number. This is why it is important to be open to all new shots that face you or the new ones that you can create.
Limiting yourself to only certain ways of creating shots or scoring on a particular hole is a defeating approach to your overall goal. Touring players and better golfers recognize this and that is why they try to learn better shots and increase their arsenal of ways to create their golf game.
As a side note, the better players in the world THRIVE on this idea of creating new shots. They do not fear new shots, they welcome them and are up for the challenge of them. Fear is a negative energy that is powerful and attracts other fear based thoughts or outcomes (such as fearing your shot falling into the lake rather than on the green).
Your Narrowed Possible Outcome
Your narrowed possible outcomes in the graphic reflects the more desired shots you prefer to create when you play. Notice however the specific word here – DESIRED!
These possible outcomes now occur once you have instructed your mind and universe what to create for you. This narrowing of the path desired sends a signal to the universe that you specifically desire a certain shot or outcome to manifest for you.
If you reflect on your play you will easily see that many of the shots you create have no centered desire of where you actually intend the ball to go. Many golfers who play simply stand on a tee and get so focused on the technique of the shot itself, they lose sight of where they wish the ball to go. With no specific vision or Image of where you wish the ball to go, how can you ever create it?
Obviously there is a time to practice and play golf and one of the many keys to golf is to become aware of your thought process when you play or practice. There is nothing wrong with practicing to perfect your swing, however during that practice, just as when you are on the course, you must have a vision of the desired outcome of the practice before you begin in order for you to arrive at the desired destination of the change in your swing. This is where so many in golf fall short, teachers included!
One of the greatest lines mentioned was from Jack Nicklaus, he stated “You practice with a purpose, then get away from it”! Take a look deeply into that statement. Jack’s purpose is the desired outcome. He, along with other great golfers have a purpose and vision of what they are trying to create while they practice. When they reach that vision, they move on or get away from it.
Another great person to think of here is Donald Trump. He has one of the greatest visionary minds of anyone in our lifetime. You may not agree with him or like him, but he is steadfast in his belief of achieving things. He has solid vision of what he wishes to create and is driven to create it! Even when he lost his millions before, he re-set his compass and created a new vision and now has created his empire again! He has one of the strongest belief patterns of anyone living today.
Your Ultimate Desired Outcome
Your Ultimate Desired Outcome in the above graphic is the real outcome that you are striving for in your golf game. The key here is first to be able to recognize just what it is EXACTLY that you are attempting to manifest or create in your golf game.
Again this should be approached at multiple levels of creativity in your golf game from an overall goal of possibly winning the club championship, winning a $10 nassau this next weekend, shooting a new low score on your favorite course or creating a new type of swing for your game. Any ultimate desired goal you have must first have a vision of what you are trying to create. Once you have the vision then the universe can provide the path for you, and again, with no vision – there will be no path to connect you!

You must have a clear vision of where you are going (ultimate desire) in order to create a path to get there! Creating this ultimate desired goal is based on implementing
proper thought and mind techniques
belief and FEELING in order for you to create that which you desire. However this final step of creating has a key to it that very few understand or comprehend.
One of the keys to creating your Ultimate Desired Outcome is in the feeling of having already created it!
This is what separates the great players from the non-great, what separates people who hope for great things and ones who actually attain great things. Golfers who reach their desired outcomes first had the vision, believed it possible and every step along the way were open to new possibilities each day on thier path and able to imagine the feeling of what they were trying to create before they created it!
From club champion to tour player, the winners were able to imagine and feel what it would be like to hoist the trophy or receive the check when winning. This feeling for some comes at an early stage in the process so it manifests quicker. For others it occurs later but when they do then imagine and feel a particular desired outcome already occurring, that is when it appears.
This final area in the above chart is what the sages have been saying for years in almost any form of religion you can possible imagine. And now science has taken leaps and bounds in the last 20 years to prove at the quantum level of all creation in our lives, the items we now see manifested in front of us are based on the observer and the beliefs of the individual observing them!
Your Field of Possibilities
As you can see it is imperative that you first go within yourself to see what you actually desire to manifest. “Go within to then experience without”.
Your Field of Possibilities is infinite in its capacity to bring you what you desire. Determining where or what you will arrive at is up to you. However you must understand that you must first create a goal, vision, Image of what you wish to create in order for the universe to assist you in manifesting it.
Once you have created your image, goal or vision, next you must allow for your path to unfold in front of you. As with your golf swing, do not get "mechanical" in your trying to control your goals or swing. Alcero Golf provides a free book to assist you with this -
